Share an example of when networking worked for you.

When speaking with Steve I realized the importance networking has played in his career growth. The strongest example of when networking worked for him, is when he shared a story about how a simple connection led to a defining career opportunity. It all started when Steve saw a retweet from his former NESN colleague, Gary Striewsky, promoting the Section 10 Podcast, a Red Sox-themed show. Upon more research, Steve found out his former college classmate, Pete Blackburn, was a co-host of the show along with Jared Carrabis. Recognizing an opportunity, he reached out to Jared on LinkedIn to make a connection.

“I still wonder to this day what my career would look like if I didn't send that message. Like there's a damn good chance someone else just would have reached out because the very next day he was going to send a tweet out about that,” Steve reflected. “But then he asked Pete about me, and Pete was like, ‘Yeah, Steve’s cool, I know him from Endicott.’ So that’s why they were cool with me being the producer. And then as time went on, I think Jared started to look at what I brought to the table and realized, ‘Steve is like a 162 guy.’”
