What is the biggest downside of your job?

Updated: 3 days ago

While Steve has had a successful career in sports media, he’s upfront about the biggest downside of his job: the sacrifices it requires, particularly when it comes to losing time and personal life.

“The only bad part is really just time,” Steve explained. “Obviously, per usual with a lot of these sports industry jobs, you're not making a lot of money. So it’s late hours, and you’re losing a lot of your social life. When I was like 23 years old, you just want to be out with your friends, drinking, and just kind of being an idiot. I do miss not getting as much of that as my buddies got, but that’s what you’ve got to give up working in the sports industry. That’s what you sign up for.”

On top of the late nights and social sacrifices, Steve also shared the challenge of changing companies, which has been a consistent part of his journey. He reflected on the difficulty of leaving Barstool Sports in 2021 for a new role at Audacy: “It was definitely career growth getting the job at Audacy. Having to leave Section 10 was brutal. It was the last thing I ever wanted to do. I could never see myself leaving the show, and it was just such a big part of my personality. And then Audacy gave me the biggest contract of my life, and I was like, ‘I’ve got to take that. I can’t not do that.’”
