When it comes to the skills that are most valuable for his job, Steve emphasizes a mix of technical and personal abilities that are crucial for success in the world of sports media.

“Good question, I would say first, how to run a social media handle,” Steve explained. “How to best utilize the content that you have and get the most out of it in terms of what the audience wants to see. Social media editing is a huge part of it.”

In addition to social media management, Steve credits video and audio editing as essential skills for his work. “Editing with video and audio has done wonders for me,” he said, acknowledging how mastering these tools has helped him elevate the quality of his content.

As the industry has evolved, especially with the pandemic shifting many roles to remote work, Steve has also had to adapt in ways that go beyond technical skills. “Even just how to work with other people remotely has become a skill to grow since the pandemic,” he shared. “You’ve got to learn how to stay productive and have the same personality over a damn laptop. I was the kind of guy to bring the donuts in and get smiles on faces. You don't really get to do that from your studio in your apartment."

In conclusion, balancing creativity with technical experience, while maintaining strong communication skills in a remote environment, are key to excelling.
